People come in a whole range of shapes, sizes and ages, and their needs are all very different but everyone would benefit from exercise at the right level.

Our new Fitness with Cambridge programme will explain the difference between cardiovascular exercise and muscle building (toning) and why it is beneficial to do both. It will give you step-by-step advice on how to start exercising at a level that is appropriate for you.

Exercise is very important for long-term weight maintenance and good health. Few people can lose weight by exercise alone but if you follow the advice in the Fitness with Cambridge pack, you will, supported by your Cambridge Counsellor, achieve your goals.

How exercise helps your diet

  • Physical activity causes an increase in energy output, which helps to increase the energy deficit.
  • Exercise helps to preserve lean body mass, and helps to decrease body fat.
  • Resistance exercises can help to increase fat-free mass, which subsequently can increase Resting Metabolic Rate.
  • Dieting can cause a drop in RMR. However by conserving and even increasing fat-free mass, exercise can prevent this fall in RMR.
  • Regular exercise contributes to the long term success and maintenance of weight loss programmes.
  • Exercise helps to improve circulation.
